WHAT DO READING CLINICIANS DO?

Reading Clinicians understand, select, and use valid, reliable, fair, and appropriate assessment tools to screen, diagnose, and measure student literacy achievement; inform instruction and evaluate interventions; participate in professional learning experiences; explain assessment results and advocate for appropriate literacy practices to relevant stakeholders.

Reading Clinicians are able to provide a range of services to address the needs of learners from preschoolers to adults. These may include:

Services provided to individual learners in the form of:

In-depth learning assessment, with recommendations for appropriate instructional strategies

Diagnostic instruction

Educational program planning

Consultative and collaborative services to stakeholders, including:

Students, Parents, Learning Support Teachers, Classroom Teachers, Administrators, Tutors, School Divisions and Other Professionals. 

Providing leadership and instructional expertise through:

Professional Development for Educators

Presentations to other professionals

Parent Information Sessions

Demonstration Lessons

Specific training for volunteers and paraprofessionals in their work

Assistance with the development of school-wide literacy plans

Assistance with the development of literacy programs
