Yes I Can Award

Congratulations to Mohamed Sall from Niverville Middle School & to Jace Narvaez, Rose Staib, & James Bornn Thiessen from the Steinbach Regional Secondary School on winning the Yes I Can Award.

Mohamed, Jace, Rose & James were recognized at the recently held Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children banquet:

Mohamed Sall – Mohamed is a natural team player, who thrives in the classroom and on the court.  He participates in school sports such as volleyball and basketball, as well as in Special Olympics.  He eagerly invites peers to join activities, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment around him.  Mohamed has built self-awareness and encourages others to embrace exceptionalities with a positive mindset.  His passion for learning is evident, particularly when using visual supports or technology.  Confident in presenting, Mohamed independently showcases his knowledge in subjects like Science and French.  He has demonstrated steady academic progress, especially in literacy and math, and remains committed to further growth.  Mohamed’s enthusiasm, determination and ability to motivate those around him exemplify the positive spirit and leadership he brings to his school community.

Jace Narvaez – Jace is an outstanding grade 12 student whose determination has helped him achieve exceptional growth academically, socially and personally. Known for his positivity and strong work ethic, he approaches challenges with resilience and a willingness to learn. Beyond the classroom, Jace made an impressive leap in the workforce last summer, engaging in a data entry role where his dedication and demeanor earned high praise from his supervisors. Jace has a strong interest in Marvel comics, particularly Spider-Man. His passion for storytelling is reflected in his dream of becoming a voice-over actor. Jace has formed meaningful friendships through shared interests like video games and board games. Jace exemplifies the qualities of a lifelong learner who inspires everyone around him. He will be nominated for an International Yes I Can! Award.

Rose Staib – Rose is a portrait of strength, joy and dedication. She consistently displays a remarkable “can do” attitude – an inspiring gift that shines through all her pursuits, especially her passion for dance. Her skills and abilities provide many opportunities for her to perform in numerous dance recitals and events, both in school and in the community. On stage, Rose gives her absolute best, fully immersing herself in the movement, encouraging her fellow dancers, and ensuring that everyone shares in the joy of the experience. Rose’s energy, passion and enthusiasm for dancing and being with friends serves as an inspiration to all!

James Bornn Thiessen – James loves dance and movement and is an eager participant in dance class. Whether through structured routines or spontaneous movements, he brings a contagious energy and spirit, encouraging his peers to join him in pursuing their own passions. Through dance and drama, James has found powerful outlets for self-expression, inspiring others with his courage and creativity. Whether working on a classroom project, participating in a dance event, or simply sharing a smile, James emboldens those around him to embrace life with the same zest.

The Yes I Can Awards were established to acknowledge the achievements of children and youth with disabilities; to overcome barriers caused by disabilities or public misconceptions; to encourage children and youth with disabilities to seek their highest potential; and to increase awareness of the abilities, aspirations, and personal qualities of people with disabilities.
